General Features As well as the main features themselves, Helm Extensions contains many smaller features to make the use of the main features easier. Heres a small list of just some of the things you can expect:

  • Full Installer: No Helm files to modify, the installer does everything for you. Just answer a few quetsions about your configuration and let it do all the work for you
  • Reintergration: Whenever you update Helm, simply re-run the quick and simple reintergration wizard - no files to edit, and no updates to install just because you updated Helm!
  • Settings: Enable or disable each Helm Extensions feature as you wish. Your resellers can do the same for their users.
  • Licence Page: Upgrade your licence at any time, by simply entering the new licence key. The new features will be available instantly

Disk Space Tracking
Normally, Helm only tracks the disk space used by your customers websites. Now, with Helm Extensions, you can include the disk space taken up by E-Mail and Databases! If configured to do so, Helm Extensions also gives your users a breakdown of how their space is being used. It provides breakdowns on the following:

  • Web Files (/wwwroot)
  • Access Databases (/db)
  • IIS Log Files (/logs)
  • Other Files
  • E-Mail
  • MS SQL Database
  • MS SQL Log Files
  • MySQL Database
  • Firebird Database

If configured to, it is also capable of listing how much disk space each database, mail account etc are using. The following applications are currently supported for the tracking of mail and database disk space:

  • SmarterMail
  • Mail Enable
  • IMail
  • Merak
  • hMailServer
  • mDaemon
  • MySQL
  • Microsoft SQL Server 2000
  • Microsoft SQL Server 2005
  • Firebird†

Take a look at the screenshots on the right to see it in action. Each service on your system can be enabled or disabled for disk space tracking, so it is totally up to you what you wish to track!

Newsletters
Create multiple newsletters for your customers, which you can either force them to be subscribed to, or give them the option through the newsletter subscriptions page where they can change their subscription preferences at any time. The messages can be sent via e-mail or internal Helm message - or both! E-Mails are sent in batches specified by the administrator to reduce the load of sending large quantities.

For Administrators: Setup newsletters for your resellers which they can subscribe to. Send a message to multiple newsletters at once.
For Resellers: Setup newsletters for your users which they can subscribe to and send messages to them. You can also forward newsletters from administrators, using your own branding. This is useful for service status announcements etc.
For users: Change your newsletter subscription preferences at any time.

Temporary URL
Allow your customers to setup a URL via which they can access their website before dns propagation, or so they can test their website before finally moving it from an old provider to your services.

For Administrators: Set the domain which is used for holding the temporary urls. For example, if the domain specified was tempurl.com and a user setup a temporary url for mydomain.com, the result would be mydomain.com.tempurl.com
For Users: Create (and remove) a temporary url for any domain that you own.

Default Documents
For each domain on the system, you can edit the IIS default document list. This is the list of documents IIS will look for when you attempt to visit a directory. Examples include index.html, default.asp etc.

For Administrators & Resellers: Set whether your users can manage their default documents list
For Users: Manage the list by adding and removing items, or reordering the ones that are there

PHP Versions
If you install multiple copies of PHP onto a server, you can use this feature to allow users to switch between them. For example, you could install the latest version of PHP4 and the latest version of PHP5. Those users who want the new features of PHP5 could enable it themselves, from their control panel, and other users would be unaffected and continue to run the more compatiable PHP4. Please note that Helm Extensions does NOT setup PHP for you - this must be done manually. It will only allow users to switch between the versions by changing the IIS script maps

For Administrators: Configure the PHP versions that are installed on each server individually to allow full control
For Users: For each domain, choose a PHP version to use (or turn PHP off all together).

Parent Paths
The parent paths feature of IIS is off by default in Windows 2003, due to security concerns. However many asp scripts require that it is turned on - resulting in support tickets from users requesting it. With this feature, Parent Paths can be enabled or disabled by the user on a specific domain or sub-domain at any time.

For Administrators & Resellers: Set whether your users can manage their parent paths
For Users: Enable or disable parent paths on a domain, or any of its subdomains

Support Request
This small feature allows your resellers and end-users to use an icon in Helm to send you a support e-mail automatically containing account number and domain name.

For administrators: Specify the e-mail address your resellers send support issues to.
For Resellers: Request support from your administrator and specify the e-mail address your users send support issues to.
For Users: Request support from your reseller.
